MisFits Review and Naman Shrivastava
This post is an honest review from a seasoned Aspirant.
Before joining MisFits I have been a part of the traditional coaching institutes. But that somehow did not cater to the problems that UPSC CSE was demanding post 2020 papers. There were missing interlinkages between the subjects. They were taught in silos. Very Segmented and a fixed structure approach of A→ B→ C.
I had already made up my mind that 2024 would be my last attempt. I joined MisFits as a part of the recorded community. Knowing that this was Naman Sir’s first venture as he is not a UPSC teacher in Old Rajinder Nagar, I took the bet.
Because I resonated with the idea of MisFits. For me MisFit simply means not fitting into the regular mould of the social construct. Strive to be better and contribute to the idea of 'good people at important positions'. MisFit could mean something very different to you.
Experience at MisFits:
1. No PDF, PPT or Writing on screen is used for the class, except Ethics, S&T and Environment. In fact the policy is ‘No Pre reads’ for Naman Sir’s class.
2. This is a very fascinating and unique way for an aspirant to learn. As he uses his imagination to construct the concepts at foundational level.
3. Cold Calling in the class gives you a chance to pause and try to formulate an answer in the very moment without any reads. This prepares for the fear of the unknown, especially in structuring your thoughts for the Mains and Interview stage.
How to incorporate the MisFits into your regular preparation?
1. Flexibility in the approach. The recordings have a much longer validity- for the aspirants appearing in 2025,2026,2027. They do not charge even a single penny for that.
2. Networking Sessions every month. Personally guilty of not attending these. Because the community is very open and welcoming. Helps you calm down anxiety and stress.
3. Provides insights from the practical world, not found in books. Such as the sessions with the Ambassador, IAS, MLAs, etc. provides you with a practitioner’s lens.
Although the class covers every aspect comprehensively for Prelims and Interview stage. There are minor gaps to be filled in the time allotted between Prelims and Mains. Because I feel everyone does not have writing as their strengths. Someone might be good in the analytical part, some in writing and some in speaking.
However, these are my personal views and are subjective in nature. This is nothing but a token of appreciation. This is the least I could do for Naman Sir and the team. Also for the community of aspirants who give their heart and soul to this nation building dream.
In this journey I have had my fair share of successes and failures. But Naman Shrivastava Sir and Shatakshi Sharma Ma’am always stood there for me and the community when needed. Naman Sir to me is like an elder brother figure whom I continue to keep learning from. One thing is for sure that in MisFits you are really in very safe hands.
