7 Deadly Sins = Best Social Media Business models ?


With the following examples I’ll illustrate how the 7 Deadly Sins are the perfect way to build a successful business on human vices (mostly).

1) Pride = Linkedin → excessive self boasting, humble-brag about one’s achievements. Eg. the tonality of the message- “showcased unparalleled leadership skills”.

2) Wrath = Twitter (now X) → engaging in hate speech, aggressive language online. Eg. Cancel culture.

3) Gluttony = Zomato, Swiggy → over-posting about food indulgent, drinks, pubs, etc. Eg. spending weekend in costly restaurants to eat something real worth of Rs. 10 nutrition.

4) Lust = Tinder, Bumble → sharing sexualised images to attract attention, followers. Eg. Kaccha badam virality

5) Envy = Instagram → comparing oneself with other people’s lifestyle, relationships, etc. Eg. trip to Maldives, proposal in Paris, etc.

6) Greed = YouTube → promoting a materialistic lifestyle, get-rich-quick schemes, etc. Eg. “Finfluencers”- Influencers with zero macro-economics knowledge promoting stock trading.

7) Sloth = Netflix, Prime → flaunting casually their laziness, avoiding responsibilities, etc. Eg. Memes posting, doom scrolling.

Perhaps, Netflix CEO was not wrong when he said, “We are competing with sleep, on margin”.
